Magazine Genre Codes and Conventions Research Project (Table of Contents)

Now, I will be talking about the codes and conventions of the Table of Contents page on each of the three magazines. The first one is the Jack White Rolling Stone magazine, the second one is the Donald Trump political cartoon Rolling Stone magazine, and the third one is the Justin Trudeau Rolling Stone magazine. I will also talk about what aspects (codes and conventions) of the Table of Contents page I like and will keep in mind when designing my own magazine.

To start off, there are already some differences in each of the TOC (Table of Contents) pages. While the Meek Mill TOC page has the Main Image and the TOC seamlessly put together...
...I prefer the TOC on the other two magazines much better, since it is just more simplistic and basic (Where there is a clear separation between the TOC itself and the main image). For example, the TOC with Khalid:
As can be seen, how the image and text are arranged is different between the Meek Mill TOC (all text is aligned to the left side of the page) and the Khalid/Travis Scott TOC (where the page is divided horizontally and the TOC with the page info for each of the articles is on the bottom). Again, I aim to have my magazine take after the likes of the Khalid/Travis Scott TOCs.

Another notable difference is the colour scheme. I can already tell that my magazine's TOC will not resemble the Meek Mill cover (Black & White Colour Scheme):
Instead, I intend for my TOC page to have the hallmarks of the Khalid TOC in terms of the colour scheme (more colorful, vibrant, luminant, etc.):
An important detail to note is what each main image and their accompanied articles aims to represent, whether it be a social group (like in the Khalid and Travis Scott TOCs above which are clearly aimed at young people), or the Meek Mill TOC which has to do with criminal justice reform (an issue).

Some things are consistent in all 3 magazines, however. For instance, not only do all of them have only 1 page for the Table of Contents, but they are also all 59 pages long. (actually 60, but the 60th page is an ad. I guess it still counts?)
Aside from that, the summary for each of the articles in the TOC for each magazines are also essentially the same throughout all magazines:

(Note: Fonts were also consistent for the TOCs in all 3. Only real difference was the overall colour scheme, as aforementioned. All of these consistent aspects showcase the house style design elements used by the magazine to ensure stylistic consistency.)

One final aspect of the TOCs that caught my eye was that the main image for the Meek Mill TOC was shot professionally...
...unlike the Travis Scott/Khalid TOCs, which where live events and the camera's POV was from the crowd. The professional photo for Meek Mill on the TOC goes back to the topic that specific main image represents (criminal justice reform), which is a serious issue, and so it's not going to be as action-packed as the other two TOCs:

This is, again, because the target audiences are completely different from the target audience for the Meek Mill TOC.
